Secrets Of The Codex Gigas

It was one of the most talked about discoveries after the Shroud of Turin. However, unlike the Shroud, considered by experts as a genuine relic, the Codex Gigas (Latin for Giant Book) somewhat bordered on the opposite end of the “religious” spectrum. The medieval manuscript written around 13th century by a monk condemned to be brick-walled alive for violating his vows asked the help of the Devil to complete the entire book in just one night, in exchange for his soul. In gratitude, he dedicated a full page of the book vividly illustrating his mentor’s image. Thus, the Codex Gigas was otherwise known as the “Devil’s Bible”.

Paradox
The Devil’s Bible contained old Latin demonic spells, rites of exorcism and incantations against evil spirits and some other historical works. Surprisingly, the book featured the complete Vulgate version of the Bible. The first chapter started with “In principio…” obviously a phrase from Genesis – “In the beginning…” How someone could wrote the holy verses of the Old and New Testaments alongside violent incantations was one question that needed elucidation.

Certainly, somewhere among the cursed, haunting texts that sprang from the writings of a doomed monk, answers lurked.

what was on the mind of that monk only he knew, now all his writings are intepreted in so many versions thus creating more confusions and controversies to believers and non-believers. I myself had stayed away from glancing these kind of materials to read that might create confusions on my beliefs. Expanding your knowledge if possible when you have all the chances is a must to grab but for me it is limited to the brink of blaspheming my religion. It took me awhile before I had decided to watch the Da Vince code movie which was banned in my church, out of curiousity, i watched it finally and I started thinking the possibilities...I have sinned in my thoughts..never again will I ever do it.

Today is Easter Sunday, after church I had few friends joined us for lunch at home... I was not able to greet you Eid Mubarak 2 weeks ago, so here's the better late than never...Take care always!

Thanks for the comment. This post will remind and warn us that the Devil spares no one. Not even Adam and Eve. The news about the Codex Gigas soared to new heights on a time when mankind is in its lowest low (economy, religious belief, political turmoil, moral values, etc.). A perfect timing for the Devil to sow his mischeif and tickery.

i had marathon movie at home for hours and hours during the holiday break.
and one of the movie i watched is "Dogma". well it's a satire on religion and catholicsm. i just took the movie as it is - a satire.
i just laugh at the jokes of matt damon, ben affleck, chris rock, salma hayek, etc.
religion is a very touchy subject. but as long as i believe in doing what is right and just, and know that someone is watching over my every move hence i don't want to commit a sin, then i think i'm fine.

I've heard of Codex Gigas but never knew what it was. Very freaky bit of work no?

However, as the old saying talks about "...know your enemy...", I think it's very important to read things like this. If, for no other reason than to find another way to defend ourselves from sick, twisted evil people. Or, in this case, the devil.
