The 2012 Apocalypse

We have been hearing and reading this theory for months. And slowly it is building up a lot of controversy and at the same time pandemonium.

December 21, 2012 is supposed to be the date the world is going to end. That is what the ancient extinct Maya civilization predicted thousands of years ago based on their “Long Count” calculation in the Tzolkin calendar. It is also called the Divine Calendar by the way, believed to accurately measure the length of time between the day the world was created, to the day it’s going to end. How did they come up with this calculation, no one knows. However, if based on the Gregorian calendar, if falls on the said tragic date.

As if adding more anxiety to the morbid Mayan forecast, the ancient Chinese have their own way of foretelling the last day. The I Ching or Book of Changes confirmed the Mayan date when the disaster is going to happen. Was it mere coincidence the ancient Mayan astronomers and the venerable wise men of China accurately mapped the same timeline?

And to top it all, the passing of Planet “X” or Nibiru into our solar system on 2012 will be the final blow to confirm the veracity of the apocalypse. So, it’s going to be total chaos when December 21, 2012 comes.

I have read and heard many end of the world theories and incidents before and nothing ever happens. Personally, I don’t believe any of them. But the one we are facing right now is, backed by evidence. How things matched up is so amazing.

Your opinions are very valuable and I want to know. Do you believe this theory? What made you believe? What are your action plans? Shall we leave everything to fate?

What we should do?

Actually Boy, the mayans did not predict anything at all. they just did some counting of days we call today as calendar. but their method is called the Long Count.

for example, this year our calendar starts from january 1, 2008 & it will end on december 31, 2008. like our short count calendar that will end on december 31, 2008, the mayan long count calendar will also end on December 20, 2012.

actually the end of their calendar is not December 21, 2012, it's December 20, 2012. December 21, 2012 is the beginning of the new Mayan Long count year, it's like our New year which will start on January 1, 2009. unfortunately, they did not put the new long count anymore in writings, that's why people of today connected the date December 20, 2012 as the end of the world just because it's the end of Mayan calendar, but actually if the one who made that calendar is still alive, definitely he will continue that mayan calendar.

In their calendar system, the year started from 0.0.0.0.0, & ended on 13.0.0.0.0.
13.0.0.0.0 is translated into our calendar as December 20,2012.
0.0.0.0.0 is translated into our calendar as September 6, 3114 BC.

If december 20, 2012 is the end of the world as what some people claim, then september 6, 3114 BC should be also the beginning of the world.

But we all know that the world is billion of years old already, & it's impossible that the beginning is just September 6, 3114 BC.

December 20, 2012 is just the end of a written long count Mayan calendar, & therefore December 21, 2012 is just a Mayan New Year.

Happy Mayan New Year this coming December 21, 2012 to all of us.

hmmm...i dont rely so much with prophecies, especially those that say when the world gonna end coz i still believe that no one can predict it. and it is no use getting paranoid over it as we are aware that we all have to go one way or the other.
a new life begins for us with every second. so i would rather go forward joyously to meet it. i live each day as it comes, so i really dont think too far ahead esp. kun san-o ini mag end.

but just a thought, if you have just a day to live, what book would you rather read, what food would you eat, where would you go, the people you will visit, the movie you will watch?

so ok, your blog does make me sit back and think...hahaha.

exactly Odette, nobody knows the end, except the Almighty of course.

However, there are true prophecies though. In fact, the last book of the Bible called the Revelations is a book of prophecies. Ironically, Revelations though a book of prophecies, but still warned mankind of false prophets.

This 2012 predictions actually is only used by some individuals for their financial gains. There is no such thing as Mayan predictions for the end of the world, it is only the end of their written Mayan Long Count Calendar.

There are also some precedents to this prediction. The Y2K prediction before the millennium forecasted that the world's technology will completely cease to function causing panic worldwide. Before this, that was the biggest hoax created by some individuals, all companies worldwide even those who are not using computers like some of our power generators in Negros were compelled to be Y2K ready. Millions of dollars were paid to those people that will ensure the Y2K-readiness of all companies worldwide.

Anyway, just for fun, it's nice to read some predictions also. In fact, even Erap's removal from office by force was also predicted by Joaquin, I cannot remember the first name.

Sorry, it's not Joaquin who predicted Erap's forced office-removal. It's Jojo Acuin.
